SO WHAT TO DO IN ŠIAULIAI?

Well yes, Šiauliai is my hometown. And not much is happening there. I had this ironic idea to create a "What to do in Šiauliai" wheel in the city centre that people could spin, and to keep all of its segments empty of activities. However, instead I left some pieces of chalk, and within three hours the wheel’s segments were filled up by people writing suggestions, and I’m glad I decided not to leave it empty. I believe interactive installations are necessary - particularly in smaller cities like Šiauliai – as this is surely one of the most effective ways to show that the people are the ones who create a city.

TAI KĄ VEIKT ŠIAULIUOSE?

Na taip, aš iš Šiaulių. Ir iš tiesų, nelabai ten yra ką veikt. Turėjau tokią ironišką pirminę idėją sukurti ratą, kurio segmentai visuomet bus tušti ir taip ironizuos miesto stagnaciją. Tačiau rato užpildymą palikau miestiečiams ir mažiau nei per tris valandas tiek ant rato, tiek ant lentos nebeliko laisvo ploto. Tikiu, kad interaktyvios instaliacijos miestuose, tokiuose kaip Šiauliai, labai reikalingos, nes tai – tiesiausias kelias įtikinti gyventojus, kad miestą kuria jie patys.
